The Dozen Dos

The Dos are meant to preserve a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere and a beautiful library where patrons may study and enjoy library materials.

  1. Do Keep Completely Quiet
    in the bookstack areas. For the benefit of those studying, silence must be observed in the bookstack areas. In other areas please speak in a low voice.
  2. Do Limit Study Tables to Four People
    Study tables may not be used by more than four people. Group study rooms are available for those who wish to discuss an assignment.
  3. Do Use the Vending Lounge When Eating or Drinking
    Eating and drinking are permitted ONLY in the vending lounge at Middletown.
  4. Do Behave Well At All Times
    Running, rowdiness, or offensive language will not be tolerated. The library is not a place for loud talk, loitering, or congregating.
  5. Do Wear Shoes and Shirt At All Times
    Shoes and shirt must be worn in the library.
  6. Do Accompany All Children
    Children may not be left unattended.
  7. Do Leave Outside
    Bicycles, skateboards, and roller blades must be left outside the building.
  8. Do Refrain From Soliciting
    Petitioning, selling, or distributing material is not permitted.
  9. Do Take Care of Your Personal Property
    You should protect your belongings at all times. The library cannot be responsible for personal property. Items found are kept at the Information Desk (Middletown) and Circulation Desk (West Chester and Trenton).
  10. Do Protect the Library's Beauty and Utility
    Please keep feet off the furniture. Any defacement or misuse of library property is an offense punishable by law.
  11. Do Respect the Privacy of Staff Work Areas
    For admittance to work areas, inquire at the Information Desk. Staff areas are restricted to official personnel.
  12. Do Respect Others When Using Cellular Phones
    The Library recognizes that some customers may need to use their cellular phones while in the library. We ask, however, that customers with cellular phones set the ringers on their phones to "vibrate" or "low" and that they restrict their cellular phone use to the lobby.
